Johnson’s Veterinary Products sponsored the Rotary Club of Sutton Coldfield Vesey’s annual Boxing Day charity dog walk last month, completing another year of local charity support.
The Rotary brings together dedicated volunteers who work to improve community wellbeing through various projects and partnerships. Among their most valued relationships is Birmingham Dog’s Home – an organisation that rescues and rehomes around 2,000 homeless dogs each year across the region without funding from the government.
As animal welfare advocates, we do our best to strengthen animal care services in the area. Our contribution to the charity walk is just one of the ways we help, ensuring Birmingham Dog’s Home can continue making a difference in the West Midlands and South Staffordshire.
The event raised over £2,000 through a combination of online sponsorships and cash donations, with funds being distributed between Birmingham Dog’s Home and other Rotary charitable initiatives. Once Joy, treasurer and accounting accuracy, returned from her time away, we were able to present a £1323 cheque to Birmingham Dogs Home.
Hundreds of dog walkers turned up for a relaxing walk around Sutton Park in the glorious sunshine. For many, this has become an annual tradition that offers a chance to make a positive impact on their community. It also helps ease people back into healthy routines after the festive season, with the added incentive that pets are invited to join in too.
The volunteers monitoring the registration desk noted particularly strong interest from the public that year, with many returning supporters and new faces joining the cause.
Part of our role as event sponsors is to provide goodie bags, filled with useful pet healthcare products that participants can take home with them once they’ve completed the walk. The latest selection included a Johnson’s waterproof bag, towel, shampoo, pen, cleaning wipes, and dog collar tag.
For over two decades, our joint efforts with the Rotary have delivered crucial support to animal welfare services, allowing vulnerable dogs to access the care and resources they need to live a happier and healthier life.
It’s been rewarding to see this event transition from a modest fundraiser into the much-loved Boxing Day tradition it is today, and we’re grateful to have played a part in its growth for all these years – and counting.
